One of the most rare and sought after species of Nepenthes, this spectacular plant produces huge traps capable of holding up over 3 quarts of water. This is the only species that has been documented as actually having caught a rat in nature. Not a beginner’s plant, this highland species requires cool daytime temps (prefers 75 ? 85 F) and nighttime temperatures about 20 degrees cooler along with high humidity. The soil should be very light and loose – often with sphagnum moss as base. Bigger plants should have special mixture with peat, perlite and bark. The roots of N. rajah are big – so the pot should be big enough. Lastly, the plant needs a lot of light – extra lightening is useful.
