Big Mouth Venus flytrap

Why is this Venus flytrap called "Big Mouth"? The main difference is the large growing, ground hugging traps. It differs from other larger forms sporting a more sawtooth appearance at the base of the teeth. It has nice robust red inner trap. Winter dormancy starts around October, then the leaves blacken and more ground hugging traps are produced. During winter dormancy these Venus flytraps will appear smaller and less attractive that in the spring and summer. Please note that the picture of the Big Mouth Venus flytrap on this website is of a specimen taken during the summer. These plants self feed, no need to do much besides water and watch them grab a meal. The "Big Mouth" Venus flytrap comes already planted in a 3" pot with growing material.
